Physical

Jason’s fighting style emphasizes brutality, speed, and strength, incorporating Aikido, Capoeira, Karate, Ninjutsu, Savate, Krav Maga, Kickboxing, and Tae Kwon Do. After being revived by the Lazarus Pit, Jason seems to have gained enhanced physical abilities. It's nowhere near what a meta or other superpower being will have and the extent of the physical changes hasn't been fully explained yet. Jason simply seems to be able to take a beating and give a beating better than most, surviving a few incidents that would have killed most people. He's not immortal, just a little bit sturdier than your average guy with human limitations.

Equipment/Weapon

Armor: He wears body armor on his torso, shins, and knees. His chest armor has a built-in taser that goes off if the bat symbol emblazoned on it is touched.

Red-Hood Helmet: Protects him from bullets and the environment. The air is filtered, protecting him from any airborne gases/poisons. The helmet allows him to communicate with others through an encrypted line. The inside of the helmet is laced with explosives, allowing him quick access to their firepower in a pinch. The helmet cannot be pried off by conventional means. It's gas-tight and can only be removed when the latches are removed in a specific order. He has a large stockpile of helmets, most likely because he often uses the explosives.

The All Blades: Twin indestructible swo connected to his soul. A gift from the All-Caste, an ancient order of assassins. He can materialize them whenever he wants but can only use them for a limited time since they draw power from his soul. They only work against magic. The All-Blades are not considered equipment because they manifest from his soul. He can only use them for a short period of time and only to fight anything resembling magic. They won't work on anything else and once he's used up his allotted time they'll disappear. They're basically a summons.

League of Assassin Dagger: It can cut through almost anything including Batman’s armor and arsenal such as his grappling lines. It’s a replica of one of Ra’s al Ghul’s knives.

personality:

Jason’s greatest strength and weakness come from the same source: love, an intense feeling of deep affection. It drives his actions and moral code. Familial love has the strongest hold on him due to growing up an orphan on the streets of Gotham. Family is a hard subject for him. He’s used to being abandoned by them, betrayed, written-off. He feels anger, mostly directed at himself. Still, he’s loyal to them. Ends up accepting the betrayals thinking he deserves it for never being good enough. It’s the same story when he’s adopted by Bruce Wayne, the Batman. Bruce tries to mold him into another version of Dick, the first Robin, but Jason’s already a teen by then with his own personality and moral code. Bruce finds him too violent, and Jason finds his methods too lenient, but he tries. Tries to live up to his expectations but he learned far too early that people will let you down. Love alone isn’t enough, and in the end, he died how he lived - alone.

While his family is obligated to put up with him, his friends choose to put up with him. He respects them and loves them just as fiercely and unlike family, they don’t judge him for his choices. They support him and vice versa, so it’s no wonder he’s loyal to them. He’ll do anything for them, even when the whole world tells him they’re a lost cause, he’ll stick by them. When Bizarro is first introduced everyone sees him as a weapon of mass destruction that needs to be put down, but all Jason sees is someone scared and alone lashing out at a world that finds fault with him. A world that doesn’t want him because they can’t control him. He sees himself. He’s been written off so many times he can't stand by and watch others do it to Bizarro.

He’s been an underdog his whole life. He spent his formative years sleeping on the streets of Gotham, learning how to steal, cheat and fast talk his way out of dangerous situations, and how to throw a punch when the other guy is bigger than you. He’s good at reading people, a skill he honed in Crime Alley where kids got shot on the regular by druggies or some gangster of the week. He’s triggered by crimes against women and children. He knows what it feels like to have their tormentor go free. He still has flashbacks of the beating Joker gave him and PTSD of being buried. He aligns as a chaotic good character who doesn’t obey the law but his own moral code. In the past, he’s tried to follow Batman’s rules of no killing, but he can’t ignore that they always return to torment their victims, which is why he kills them to stop the cycle of abuse.

Jason’s lived a hard life. He hides it behind sarcasm, but the cracks are easy to spot. He deals with his trauma on his own. He likes reading. It gives him time to collect his thoughts and an outlet from his world. He’s a good listener, genuine, and straightforward, giving him a sort of humble charm. He doesn’t posture, but he’s got a mouth on him. He uses sarcasm as a coping mechanism preferring to joke about his fucked-up life rather than pity it. He’s focused. Got a solid head on his shoulders and enough experience to rely on his instincts to make rapid decisions. He’s a good leader, organized, and always has contingency plans. He’s always getting under people’s skin, especially the criminals he fights. He’s often cracking jokes while cracking heads.

IN CHARACTER

Character Name: Jason Todd
Canon: DC Comics
Canon Point: Red Hood and the Outlaws Annual #2. After Jason is rescued by Roy in Issue #25, he's recovering from the injuries he received from Batman.

In-Game Tattoo Placement: Antlers. Left upper shoulder. 2 in.
Current Health/Status: Healthy.
Age: 19
Species: Human.

History: Canon + Personal History

Personality:
Jason’s greatest strength and weakness derive from the same source. Love: an intense feeling of deep affection. He believes in variations of love. “Variations of the same desire to be close” to another. It drives his actions, leading him to his own moral code. Familial love has the strongest hold on him due to growing up an orphan on the streets of Gotham. His father died in prison and his step-mother died a drug addict, so when he discovers that his biological mother is still alive he jumps at the chance to meet her and tracks her down. When he finds her, she ends up selling him out to the Joker who kills them both. Family is a hard subject for him. He’s used to being abandoned by them, betrayed, written-off. He feels anger toward them, yet that anger is mostly directed at himself. Still, he’s loyal to a fault to them and ends up accepting the betrayals thinking he deserves it for never being good enough. It’s the same story when he’s adopted by Bruce Wayne, the Batman. Bruce tries to mold him into another version of Dick, the first Robin, but Jason’s already a teen by the time he’s adopted, his moral code already set in stone. Bruce finds him too violent and Jason finds Batman’s methods too lenient, but he tries. Tries to live up to his expectations but in the end, he’s been alone too long to rely on anyone. He learned far too early that people will let you down, that love alone doesn’t fix anything, and in the end, he died like he lived, alone.

His view of friendship is similar except for a small crucial difference. Jason believes his family is obligated to put up with him where his friends choose to put up with him. He respects them and loves them just as fiercely and unlike family, they don’t judge him for his choices. They support him and vice versa, so it’s no wonder he’s loyal to them as well. He’ll do anything for them, even when the whole world tells him they’re a lost cause, he’ll stick by them. When Bizarro is first introduced everyone sees him as a weapon of mass destruction that needs to be put down. But all Jason sees is a child scared and alone lashing out at a world that finds fault with him. A world that doesn’t want him because they can’t control him. He sees himself. He’s been written off so many times he can't bring himself to stand by and watch others do it to Bizarro, and despite everyone calling him a fool, Jason tries to understand him. If he can get him to talk to him, then maybe he can convince the others that he isn’t a ticking time bomb that he doesn’t need to be put down because he knows, if he does nothing they will eliminate him without a second thought.

Jason understands how victims think and feel. He empathizes with the ones who’ve been written off. He’s been a victim his whole life. He spent his formative years sleeping on the streets of Gotham, learning how to steal, cheat and fast talk his way out of dangerous situations. How to throw a punch when the other guy is so much bigger than you. He’s been an underdog his whole life, witnessed horrific crimes against people who were too good to live in the cesspool of Gotham, while the cops let their torments go to continue to harass them. He knows that even though a criminal is locked up, the fear of the victim doesn’t go away. He’s lived it. As a child, Jason had to protect his mother from the drug dealers that walked out of the revolving doors of a corrupt justice system to harass her for his father’s debts. For this reason, Jason is especially triggered when it comes to crimes against women and children. He’s known their hardships, known what it feels like to have their tormentor (the Joker) go free and continue to torment their victims. He aligns as a chaotic good character who doesn’t obey the law but his own moral code. Consequently, Jason rebels against authority. He refuses to bend to it’s will, even if it means going against the people he cares about. He’s tried in the past to follow Batman’s rules of no killing, but he can’t ignore what he knows is right in his heart. He’s been a victim for too long to give the villains a chance to continue their torment. “You can’t stop crime, that’s what you never understood. I’m controlling it. You wanna rule them by fear but what do you do with the ones who aren’t afraid? I’m doing what you want won’t. I’m taking them out.” He won’t ever harm an innocent, and has shown genuine insult when someone accuses him of it. Just because he kills criminals who deserve death, doesn’t mean he kills everyone. He only kills those scum who truly deserve it.

Jason has a lived a hard life and although he hides it behind sarcasm the cracks are easy to spot. He’s consistently shown signs of PTSD when it comes to being buried. When his plane crashes and he wakes up buried under feet of snow, he starts to panic. His thoughts quickly return to his revival when he first woke up 6ft under injured and confused. He had to dig himself out of his grave with his bare hands and his still haunted by that experience to this day, which is why he instantly goes into panic mode. He uses his built in taser to break up the snow to set himself free and instantly removes the helmet unable to breathe. He calms himself down, but the scene serves as a reminder that he suffers mental issues and is in need of therapy, something his friend Roy constantly brings up even though Jason always turns down the idea. Instead, Jason manages his own episodes fairly well. He’s had to deal with his mental baggage from the beginning and although he’s started to surround himself with people that care about him, his lone wolf mentality is ever present. He loves his friends, hangs out with them but in the end, he needs time by himself to think things over at his own pace. This is probably why he likes reading so much, he can read in relative peace all by himself giving him time to collect his thoughts while giving him an outlet from his world. He spent many days alone in the manor with only Alfred for company most of the time, so he spent most of his free time reading from the vast collection of classic book and poems.

Jason uses sarcasm as a coping mechanism preferring to joke about his fucked up life rather than pity it. He’s blunt with his answers, and rather than lie, he simply doesn’t answer, shifting the subject. He’s focused and able to remove his emotions from his decisions, so long as the subject isn’t triggering for him. He’s got a solid head on his shoulders and enough experience to rely on his instincts to make rapid decisions. He’s organized, plans ahead and like Batman taught him, always has contingency plans. Being a regular human in a superpowered world, he knows that he won’t always be the fastests, or the strongest and he won’t always be able to outgun them, so he puts his detective skills to work to learn everything about his enemies in order to out-think them. For these reasons and more, he’s often considered the leader of the outlaws when he was with Roy and Kori and later with Artemis and Bizarro. Jason isn’t just a leader to the outlaws he’s their friend. He listens to them. He’s genuine but straightforward giving him a sort of humble charm. He also doesn’t posture, nor does he care about such things like masculinity. Still, he’s got a mouth on him and isn’t afraid to use it. He’s always getting under people’s skin, especially the criminals he fights. He’s often cracking jokes while cracking heads.

Writing Samples:

Link One and Two

[ Bullets ricochet around the alley. Behind the dumpster, Red-Hood lies in wait guns facing up as he counts off the bullets. He can hear one of the storybook gangsters spitting out orders to run around the building and catch him from behind. You'd think they'd try to whisper. ]

You know, I really just wanted to talk but you assholes decided to pull your dicks out and now I'm going to have to retaliate, and not trying to brag, but mine's bigger.

[ Suddenly a barrage of bullets strike the metal shield to hide their movements. Well, there goes minion one and two to cut me off. Jason waits till the asshole with the automatic runs out of bullets, then throws himself in the fray taking them by surprise. Bullets fly and when the smoke clears Red-Hood is the last man standing but his victory is short lived when he hears the sirens that can only mean the boys in blue heading his way, so he books it.

He's grabbing his side in pain by the time he makes it to his safehouse. The armor kept his insides intact but that didn't mean it didn't hurt like a bitch. The adrenaline kept it to a mild nuisance but now that it's worn out, it's made itself at home. He collapses onto a chair, taking off the helmet, dropping it on the ground. He's bleeding from his right arm where a bullet grazed him. Asshole. He focuses on his breathing, letting the night's events play out in his mind.

He got the tip from one of his sources. A new gang had started up in the east quarter and rumor had it they were selling to kids, so Redhood was on the prowl after that. Everyone knew his golden rule - Don't sell to kids or get a bullet for your troubles. Too bad for them, he caught them harassing a mother and her kid. The scene hit a little too close to home and Jason found himself back in his 10 year old self facing off against the drug peddling assholes that constantly harassed his mom for money for the drugs they sold her. His 'talk' wasn't really a talk. The way he came in, he knew they'd start firing at him giving the pair the time to escape while he dealt with the scum. He wasn't sorry. Whatever bullshit Bruce spun had spun him about justice and the law never took into account the victims. He was born and raised in Crime Alley where the cops and judges were as corrupt as the criminals who paid them to look the other way. The innocent constantly got stepped on while the assholes walked. And those that did do time were nothing but the fall guys for a meaner deadlier prick up the food chain. No, Jason wasn't about to let the cops deal with the matter. That's what Red-Hood was for, an outlaw who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty to protect the real victims from a world out to exploit them instead of fluffing a pillow for the criminals.

The pain dulls and Jason starts undoing the buckles of his armor to take a shower. He heads back home, uses the door this time instead of the window and let himself in. He walks past a neat kitchen and living room and goes straight to his room. ]

Hello bed.

[ He drops the duffel bag with his Red-Hood outfit on the floor and falls on the bed. ]

Hello pillow.

[ He mumbles into the cotton padding before crashing for the night. ]

Flaws:

Jason is not a good guy trying to be bad, or at least that's the best description of him, and in doing that bad he's committed murder multiple times. He's on the most wanted list for a lot of international organizations such as Interpol. He spent a few years as an assassin for the League of Assassins,  then as an assassin for hire. He's also spent some time as a bonafide drug-lord, though he made it a point of not selling to children. He's fought against his family and committed many other unlawful acts. Jason is currently considered an Outlaw making him a perfect candidate.

The loud noise hid their movements as they repositioned themselves to run him down, but it couldn't hide their shadows. He waited till the asshole with the automatic ran out of bullets before throwing himself in the frey taking them by surprise. Bullets started reigning down in the alley and when the smoke finally cleared Red-Hood was the last man standing and with the cop sirens approaching, he booked it.

By the time he made it back to his safehouse, Jason was grabbing his side in pain. None of the bullets got through the armor but getting hit by an automatic hurt like a bitch. The adrenaline had kept the pain at bay earlier but now that it was out of his system his bruised ribs made themselves known. The talk wasn't really a talk. The way he came in, he knew they'd start firing at him giving the pair the time to escape while he dealt with the scum. In the end he wasn't sorry. Whatever bullshit about justice and the law Bruce had tried to instill in him long ago had never taken root. How could it when he was born and raised in Crime Alley where the cops and judges were as corrupt as the criminals who paid them to look the other way. Where the innocent constantly got stepped while their harrasses walked each and every time. Where those that did do time were nothing but the fall guys for a meaner deadlier asshole up the food chain. No, Jason wasn't about to let the cops deal with the matter. That's what Red-Hood was for, an outlaw who wasn't afraid to get his hands dirty to protect the real victims instead of fluffing up a pillow for the criminals.

The pain dulled and Jason started removing the buckles of his armor. He removed the Red-Hood persona and took a shower before heading back home. He entered through the door this time instead of the window and let himself in. He walked past a neat kitchen and living room and headed to his room. ]

Hello bed. Hello pillow.

[ He dropped the duffel bag with his Red-Hood outfit on the floor and fell on the bed, crashing for the night. ]

Note
: It's confirmed that Dick finished Law School in Rebirth which makes him 24-25, and Jason is supposed to be 4-5 years younger than him. Hence the headcanon for his age.  Also, height and weight are taken from here.

History Summary: Before the start of Rebirth

His dad was a henchman for hire, got himself locked up after a job went south, and ended up dying in prison. Mom was a drug addict he tried to protect but ended up dying of an overdose anyway. He was on the streets after that fast talking his way out of deadly encounters and learning to take a punch from someone a lot bigger than him. He kept himself fed sometimes by stealing car parts. It's how he first met Batman. He caught him stealing the wheels off the batmobile. Batman takes him to a school for at-risk youths, but it turns out the school is just a front for criminal activity, and the two of them end up taking it down. Batman then takes him in and makes him his new Robin, but he's a little too violent for the boy wonder persona. You can take the kid out of Crime Alley, but you can't take Crime Alley out of the kid.

He ends up getting benched, then comes to find out his biological mother is still alive while the one he'd known was just a woman his dad took up with after his mother left. He chases the clues until he finds her. It's all sunshine and rainbows until she sells him out to the Joker, who beats him with a crowbar within an inch of his life and kills him in an explosion for Batman to find. He ends up dead and buried 6 feet under, then 6 months later, some multi-dimensional bullshit brings him back to life. Kid had to dig himself out of his own grave with his bare hands. He comes out the other end, practically a zombie. I guess Joker bashed his head in with that crowbar a little too good. The League of Assassins later finds him, and he gets thrown into the Lazarus Pit, which heals his mind. Now that he's back in body and mind, he's told he's already been replaced and shown pictures of the new Robin hanging out with Batman. This eats at him, and he ends up tracking Tim down, makes sure all of the Titans except Tim are away for the night before breaking into the tower wearing a version of his old Robin uniform and beating Tim until he's unconsciousness. He feels a little guilty about that now, not his best moment. Later, he goes around the world learning how to be a better assassin before returning to Gotham City. He takes up the Joker's first persona, the Red Hood, and makes it his own.

He comes back to Gotham to influence crime and take vengeance. He kills the top drug dealers and takes control of the drug trade in Gotham while making moves to get the attention of the major crime lords, becoming just enough of a nuisance to their bottom line to get them to use their resources to do what he can't. During this crime spree, he ends up facing off with Batman, and the two end up unmasked before each other. Now that his identity is out, Red Hood puts more pressure on the crime lords before Batman tracks him down and Black Mask takes the bait. He springs the Joker from prison to kill him exactly as Jason planned from the start. With Joker out of Arkham Asylum, he easily tracks and captures him while in police transport, outsmarting Batman when he tries to stop him. Once he has Joker in his custody, Jason beats him with a crowbar within an inch of his life for old times sake. An eye for an eye. Later, he rigs a building to explode and has a final showdown with Batman, the Joker, and him. He gives Batman an ultimatum. Kill the Joker or kill him. Sadly, no one gets killed, even after the bombs go off. Jason ends up escaping, becoming an outlaw.

Powers

Powers / Enhancements:

Armor: He wears body armor on his torso, shins and knees. His chest armor has a built in taser rigged to go off if the bat symbol emblazoned on the chest is touched.

Red-Hood Helmet: Protects him from bullets and the environment. The air is filtered protecting him from any airborne gases/poisons. The helmet allows him to communicate with others through an encrypted line. The inside of the helmet is laced with explosives allowing him quick access to their firepower in a pinch. The helmet cannot be pried off by conventional means. It's gas-tight and can only be removed when the latches are removed in a specific order. He has a large stockpile of helmets most likely because he often makes use of the explosives.

Magic Blades: The All Blades. Twin indestructible swords connected to his soul. A gift from the All-Caste, an ancient order of assassins. He can materialize them whenever he wants but can only use them for a limited time since they draw power from his soul. They only work against magic.

Note
The All-Blades are not considered equipment because they manifest from his soul. He can only use them for a short period of time and only to fight anything resembling magic. They won't work on anything else and once he's used up his allotted time they'll disappear. They're basically a summons.

League of Assassin Dagger: It can cut through almost anything including Batman’s armor and arsenal such as his grappling lines. It’s a replica of one of Ra’s al Ghul’s knives.

  ☄ IC

♚ MEDICAL INFO: Jason's a healthy human with no supernatural abilities aside from the All-Blades which are mentioned in his Profile. He's been fighting for his life his whole life giving him exceptional strength, speed, and reflexes.
♚ MENTAL INFO: He's a detective and therefore observant. He can be manipulative when he puts his mind to it, but only for a mission. He excels at strategy and tactics and has good instincts giving him an edge in a fight, he's a fast thinker and fast talker.
♚ TRIGGERS: Abused women and children. Exploitation. Injustice of the innocent.
♚ TELEPATHY/MIND READING: Go ahead. He'll try to fight back against it in anyway he can.
♚ PHYSICAL VIOLENCE: YES! Please do! Jason loves a good fight and is happiest when he's out fighting crime. It comes from being a former Robin. He's got good instincts when it comes to fighting and finds it to be a great stress reliever. He's good with guns and blades, but prefers using his fists. As for hurting him, go ahead and try! He's a seasoned fighter and knows how to fight dirty, it's his trump card! Killing him would be something we'd need to talk about since I don't tend to kill off my characters so easily.
♚ PHYSICAL AFFECTION: Jason is both emotional and affectionate, but doesn't often let it show. He's the type that can get along with anyone but only gets close to a handful of people. However, he doesn't have to be close to someone to be affectionate. He's a physical person, so he'll get handsy no problem, if it's welcome. Flirting with him? Go ahead. He'll flirt right back or initiate. Given the time, he'll pick someone up at a bar or go on dates. He's confident in himself. Hugging him? Sure! He'll hug you right back, or initiate. Kissing him? Yup. Go ahead. He'll most likely kiss back or initiate if it seems to be welcome. He's a physical person who has no problem with romance or sleeping with someone. It's just physical. It's opening up to others about his emotional state that's his ultimate problem.
♚ RELATIONSHIPS: Open to familial, friendship, romantic, enemy, frienemy, and mentor relationships. None without notable CR.
♚ SHIPPING PREF: Jason's naturally affectionate and leans towards physical affection. He's an open-minded kind of guy with no physical preferences. As long as someone accepts him as he is without trying to change him, he'll be open to any kind of relationship. The only thing to note is that Jason has been betrayed one too many times by those closest to him, so even if he trusts someone to have his back, he won't trust his feelings to them. He's been stabbed through the heart one too many times, so anyone he's with will have to accept a surface level kind of relationship - at least for a while. No shipping w/out notable CR.

Thoughts on how I play Jason. Good? Bad? All critique, please comment here. We all stray from time to time so it's always nice to be pointed back in the right direction. Praise also welcome because when is it not?!
